What I'm Reading....What I'm Watching....The Rest is Jungle is a collection of short stories by the Uruguayan author, Mario Benedetti. This is a nice collection of entertaining works, but by far my favorite story in the collection is "The Budget." If you prefer to read the author's works in their original Spanish, Benedetti's Buzon de Tiempo offers an eclectic mix of tales, reflecting on subjects such as soccer fans, children split between two households, lost loves, and more. For the most part, you do not need an advanced command of the Spanish language to read a Benedetti short story, making him an accessible author for Intermediate Spanish language learners. Turning now to France, on the big screen, you could check out Robert Bresson's The Pickpocket - if you've ever been on a subway in Europe, this film will bring back memories. The WSU Libraries have recently acquired several French Films, including A Screaming Man, Welcome, and A Prophet. For a list of French films available through the WSU Libraries, check out http://libguides.wsulibs.wsu.edu/french and select "Feature Films." Check out Vittorio De Sica's Ladri di biciclette; not a frame wasted. Some good exchanges in Romanaccio and a tour of Porta Portese are two bonuses of this film. The genius of Italian cinema!
