EZID at Washington State University

Washington State University is a subscriber to the EZID service.  EZID enables WSU researchers to generate permanent identifiers for data. You can create one or more identifiers early in the research cycle, even before you've found a permanent home for the data and then include the identifer(s) in data management plans submitted to funding agencies.

This California Digital Library (CDL) web page describes some use cases for EZID.

If you'd like an introduction to WSU's EZID service or to use EZID, please contact Al Cornish at 509.335.1895.

A summary of the EZID service

DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and ARK (Archival Resource Key) identifiers can be generated using EZID's web form.

EZID has these core functions:

  • the creation of a persistent identifier
  • the management of an identifier over time
  • adding metadata for an identifier and keeping it up to date over time

EZIDs can be generated using a web form. This demonstration form shows how to create an EZID. There are basic and advanced screens, with the latter supporting more customizations, such as the ability to make the identifier and its target URL private.

It's also possible to generate EZID identifiers programatically using a published API
